Bloody Lies

Bloody Lies is a project I did about raising awareness about period pains and how they should be taken seriously. In my project I  created a zine about period myths as I think part of getting women to be taken seriously is to abolish these myths that have been ingrained into our community. I referred back to old period advice that I researched from the wellcome collection that now when looking at it seems ridiculous such as drinking wine mixed with cocaine. I then paired it with myths that people still believe today to convey how they are also ridiculous.

I then decided I wanted to create a poster to help raise awareness. I decided to focus on the misconception of periods being dirty. I illustrated people holding period products and talking about their periods and surrounded them by people looking disgusted and scared to imply how silly the fear and disgust people have towards periods is.

I decided to take this poster into screenprint to create a series of posters that I exhibited at UAL Camberwell.

I also made period pants and period pad earrings to imply the beauty of periods and help with normalising and take away the idea of periods being dirty.
